NATIONAL MONTH LAUNCH: OVER 5,000 PEOPLE TAKE PART IN 6,600 LANGKAH PERPADUAN EVENT

More than 5,000 people took part in the 6,600 Langkah Perpaduan (Steps of Unity) programme in conjunction with the launch of the 2023 National Month and the Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign at Bulatan Sultan Azlan Shah in Meru Raya this morning.

Pre-registered participants arrived at the registration centre as early as 5.30 am to confirm their participation and receive a free t-shirt.

The participants were flagged off by Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil, who is also the chairman of the main committee for the National and Malaysia Day 2023 celebrations.

Earlier, Fahmi joined the participants in a stretching session with the programme’s icon influencer Usop Wilcha.

The event, which began at 6.30 am, is divided into two categories, namely a 4.5-kilometre fun run that is open to all participants and a 1.5-kilometre fun walk for the elderly, children, and persones with disabilities (PwD).

The concept of 6,600 steps was chosen to symbolise the 66th National Day celebration this year.

Apart from the 6,600 Langkah Perpaduan programme, other interesting events that will be held in conjunction with the launch of the 2023 National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign are Jualan Rahmah, government agencies’ exhibition, Bintang Patriotik competition, a national quiz and the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang Convoy.

The Royal Malaysia Police will also open a payment counter offering a 50 per cent discount for selected summons from 8.30 am to 3 pm.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof will launch the event at 10 am on behalf of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

National Day celebrations on Aug 31 will be held at Dataran Putrajaya while Malaysia Day celebrations on Sept 16 will take place in Kuching, Sarawak.
