Negeri sembilan: The Negeri Sembilan government has initiated its state-level response plan based on the National Haze Action Plan and National Open Burning Action Plan, following directives from the Department of Environment (DOE). This action comes in response to the Air Pollutant Index (API) level surpassing the 150 mark for a continuous 24-hour period.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, State Entrepreneurship, Human Resources, Climate Change, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman S. Veerapan announced that the plan includes intensifying patrols and enforcement against open burning activities, particularly in high-risk agricultural and industrial zones. He mentioned that the state would consider deploying cloud seeding technology in collaboration with federal agencies if air pollution levels continue to escalate.

Veerapan also called upon the residents of Negeri Sembilan to actively participate in reporting open burning activities through the DOE complaint hotline. He emphasized the importance of community involvement in supporting the state's initiatives towards achieving a more sustainable future.

The DOE's Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal reported that as of 6 pm today, eight areas in Peninsular Malaysia recorded unhealthy API levels. Alor Gajah in Melaka had the highest reading at 157, followed by Seremban at 155. Other areas with elevated API levels include Kemaman in Terengganu at 153, Banting in Selangor, Temerloh and Balok Baru in Kuantan, Pahang at 152, Nilai in Negeri Sembilan at 146, and Johan Setia in Selangor at 140.

An API reading between 101 and 200 is classified as unhealthy, posing potential health risks to vulnerable groups, such as the elderly, children, and individuals with respiratory conditions.
