Pulau sebatik: A new Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) outpost on Pulau Sebatik is set to move forward after a detailed review of critical factors, as confirmed by Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari. He stated that current border security in the area remains stable, with ongoing cooperation among various security agencies.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Deputy Defence Minister emphasized collaborative efforts with the National Security Council and the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) in overseeing the development of the new outpost. This statement came after his working visit to the island, where he gained a clearer understanding of the proposed site's needs and specifications.
Adly underscored the continuous efforts to enhance defence capabilities in Pulau Sebatik and throughout Sabah to ensure national security. Additionally, he mentioned that the Defence Ministry, through the Department of Veterans Affairs (JHEV), is prepared to support the Education Ministry (MOE) in addressing staffing needs, such as dormitory wardens.
He highlighted the competence and training of veterans, noting their involvement in existing collaborations with MOE through civil-military cooperation programmes. During his visit, Adly also engaged with seven ATM veterans in Kampung Sungai Tongkang as part of the MADANI ATM Veteran Outreach Programme (PVM), which aims to support and honor former service members.
