New-generation MyKad With 53 Security Features Receives Positive Public Response

Putrajaya: Members of the public have described the issuance of the new-generation MyKad, equipped with 53 security features and rolled out today, as a positive improvement in terms of technology and security, while also strengthening identity protection.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the new-generation MyKad, issued by the National Registration Department (NRD), is the seventh-generation identity card and has been upgraded from 23 to 53 modern, secure features to meet current needs.

Nineteen-year-old student Puteri Nur Syafiqah Jailani expressed excitement about receiving the new-generation MyKad on the first day of its issuance, noting the replacement process at NRD as easy and fast. She was unaware of the issuance until she arrived at NRD and saw a notice about the new card. Puteri Nur Syafiqah advised the public to make appointments before visiting NRD to expedite the MyKad replacement process.

Shaza Nuizeaan Shafie from Puchong, Selangor, found the process of replacing the MyKad with the new-generation version straightforward and the new card appealing. She visited the Putrajaya NRD to apply for identity cards for her two children and was pleased with the swift process and enhanced security features of the new MyKad.

Khairul Anuar Azizan commended NRD staff for handling the issuance efficiently, highlighting the quick process and the excitement surrounding the new MyKad. Private-sector employee Foo Yew Jin remarked on the improved security and durability of the card, suggesting potential further enhancements in the future.

On Tuesday, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail advised the public not to rush to replace their MyKad with the new version when applications opened. The replacement exercise will be conducted in phases, with existing cards remaining valid for daily transactions. Starting today, applications for the new-generation MyKad can be made at 40 NRD branches with printing centers that produce the cards on the same day. At branches without printing facilities, cards will be ready within five working days.

The new-generation MyKad incorporates security elements such as a Dynamic Security Hologram and Transparent Window on the front, as well as an Enforcement QR Code and a Dual-Interface Chip on the back.
