New ICQS Complex at Bukit Berapit: KDN Works on Land Issues

Pengkalan Hulu: The Home Ministry (KDN) is actively addressing land issues related to the construction of the new Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security (ICQS) Complex at Bukit Berapit, Pengkalan Hulu, Perak. Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Shamsul Anuar Nasarah announced that efforts are being made to resolve these issues to align with the state government's goal of transforming the area into an industrial hub that benefits local communities.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Shamsul Anuar emphasized the necessity of the new ICQS Complex, citing the inconvenient location of the existing complex. He discussed these matters at a press conference following the ceremonial handing over of a boat for the Kampung Beng Police Post and the keys to the Lenggong Police Station quarters. The new complex is needed due to the recent upgrade of Betong Airport in Thailand to international standards, which could make the border entry point a significant route for travelers.

The Deputy Minister explained that for residents in southern Kedah, Penang, and Lenggong, the presence of an international airport nearby would eliminate the need to travel to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). It would also allow them to fly directly to Betong, Thailand, and beyond, enhancing travel convenience and connectivity.

In April of the previous year, Shamsul Anuar mentioned that the KDN and the Perak government aimed to finalize discussions related to the new Bukit Berapit ICQS Complex by May 2024. He also noted some technical challenges concerning the project's location, size, and construction costs.

The proposed relocation of the Bukit Berapit ICQS Complex is prompted by the existing complex's distance from the international border gate. Additionally, the new facility's construction is viewed as an opportunity to enhance the local economy and provide added value to residents in the area.
