NEXTDC’S KL1 TO BE MOST TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCED DATA CENTRE – FAHMI

NEXTDC’s Kuala Lumpur (KL1) is poised to be the most technologically advanced, fault-tolerant, operationally reliable, secure and environmentally sustainable data centre in the region, said Minister of Communications and Digital Fahmi Fadzil.

He said this is because KL1, which is expected to begin operations in phases 18 months from now, will be a Tier IV-certified data centre.

Tier IV denotes that KL1 meets the highest industry standards globally.

“Located in Petaling Jaya, the site is closely situated to central Kuala Lumpur and major business hubs in the Klang Valley, one of Malaysia’s key economic centres.

“This will allow NEXTDC to service the demands of major Malaysian businesses, cloud hyperscalers, and a growing array of tech start-ups where many of these potential customers are seeking Tier IV capability, with the highest level of security,” he said at the development launch of KL1 here today.

Fahmi said all of these would culminate in an investment value of RM3 billion over the next five to 10 years, and create at least 70 highly-skilled jobs for Malaysian nationals.

“This development will attract more global cloud and digital companies to Malaysia, thereby accelerating Malaysia’s digital transformation and associated job creation,” he said.

NEXTDC Ltd, which is Australia’s leading data centre operator, announced its entry into the Malaysian market with its first data centre development in KL1.

The facility is designed to scale rapidly and will grow to approximately 65 megawatts (MW) of information technology critical power coupled with direct cloud interconnectivity and will welcome customers into the facility in 2025.

“The facility signals NEXTDC’s first foray into international markets, where Malaysia has been chosen as the first destination for the company’s overseas footprint.

“Together with the Australian government, we will continue to cooperate to advance our digital economy ambitions for the shared prosperity it brings,” Fahmi said.
