NIA Allocates Excess Irrigation Water for Municipal Use in Cavite

Manila – The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) has entered into a partnership with the provincial government of Cavite, aimed at revolutionizing water resource utilization for the province’s benefit. This collaboration was formalized through a memorandum of agreement (MOA) signed by NIA acting administrator Eduardo Guillen and Cavite Governor Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla at Malacañan Palace in Manila.

According to Philippines News Agency, the NIA’s excess irrigation water will now be repurposed for municipal use in Cavite. This agreement represents a strategic shift in resource allocation, ensuring that excess water is not wasted but instead contributes to the province’s domestic water needs. Guillen highlighted the significance of this partnership, stating it will aid in generating non-irrigation revenues for NIA, which are crucial for enhancing the country’s irrigation systems. Additionally, Remulla expressed optimism about the agreement, emphasizing its importance in addressing Cavite’s pressing water supply needs and contributing to the region’s continued growth and industrial development. This initiative aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s commitment to maximizing the potential of the country’s water resources, and Senior Deputy Executive Secretary Hubert Dominic Guevarra was also present at the signing event.
