Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated there have been no talks regarding PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar assuming the position of Selangor Menteri Besar, currently held by Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar clarified, "That is his view. He never discussed it with me," in response to Amirudin's suggestion of Nurul Izzah succeeding him. Amirudin mentioned he had proposed the idea to Nurul Izzah and left the decision to her discretion.
When questioned about Amirudin's readiness to take on responsibilities at the federal level, Anwar remarked, "When is the election? Still a long way to go. we will discuss later." Furthermore, the prime minister remained non-committal regarding a potential Cabinet reshuffle, humorously responding, "A reshuffle is to fill vacancies. Can you suggest some names? I will consider," during a dinner with the Malaysian diaspora.
Amirudin's potential move to a federal role was touched upon by Anwar, who commented, "That is only one position. There are three vacancies, at least."
In a separate discussion, Anwar showed support for a proposal to establish a Centre for African Studies to enhance Malaysia's understanding of Africa's 54 nations. He stated, "I will certainly take it up. It is a good proposal. We have European Studies, we understand American history, we are familiar with Indian civilisation - but less is known about Africa as a whole, and Latin America."
Addressing calls for increased Malaysian investment in Africa, Anwar emphasized the role of the business community in exploring and deciding on such opportunities, while the government's role is to "encourage and facilitate."
During his earlier speech, Anwar urged Malaysians abroad to excel in their endeavors, stressing the importance of not only acquiring knowledge but also committing to disseminating what is right and just.
