No Discussion Yet On Jonker Walk 2.0

Melaka: The Melaka government has yet to discuss the proposal to create Jonker Walk 2.0 along Jalan Hang Tuah, as the matter requires a more detailed study considering various aspects. State Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Rais Yasin emphasized that careful consideration is necessary to avoid negatively impacting existing businesses, most of which are long-established and operated by Malay traders in the area.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, although the state government is open to initiatives aimed at boosting the tourism sector, the proposal for Jonker Walk 2.0 requires thorough examination. This includes assessing the suitability of the location and the methods of implementation. These considerations are crucial to ensure that any development complements rather than disrupts the existing economic activities in the region.

The proposal for Jonker Walk 2.0 was highlighted by Kota Laksamana assemblyman Low Chee Leong, who believes that Jalan Hang Tuah holds significant potential to further bolster the local economy. The inspiration for this proposal stems from the success of the night market at Jalan Hang Jebat, which has been a major tourist attraction for the past 25 years, drawing visitors from around the globe.
