Kuala lumpur: Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor stated that his office has not received any documents or instructions regarding the position of Opposition Leader.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ramli made this statement in response to RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong), who raised the issue after the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat. Ramli emphasized that despite the question being raised while he was chairing the session, it is a matter concerning the basic structure of the Dewan Rakyat. He noted that neither he nor the other Deputy Speaker has received any instructions or written proposals from the opposition to indicate a vacancy.
Rayer had referred to Standing Order 4A(4), which mandates that any doubt or dispute over the Opposition Leader's position should be resolved by the Speaker, and the decision, once confirmed in writing and signed, is final and conclusive.
The issue arises following the expulsion of Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin and 16 other leaders of Bersatu from the party by its Disciplinary Board. The expulsion was communicated through a notice titled 'Notification of Disciplinary Board Decision on Reports of Constitutional Violations,' sent by the Bersatu Disciplinary Board chairman, Datuk Mohd Radzi Manan, to party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasin.
Yesterday, Perikatan Nasional deputy secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan mentioned that discussions are still ongoing regarding the appointment of a new Opposition Leader in Parliament to replace Hamzah.
In the meantime, Ramli also cautioned MPs against raising issues that lead to friction among members in the Dewan Rakyat, especially during the month of Ramadan. He urged members to address issues directly to avoid wasting time and emphasized that the Dewan's time should be dedicated to public interest matters.
