Shah alam: The government has assured that the RM171 million budget for the construction of the National Subfertility Centre in Seksyen 17, Shah Alam, will not be affected by the recent rise in construction material prices. Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad confirmed that there have been no reported increases in construction costs, thus negating the need for any additional funding. The project is proceeding smoothly and is anticipated to be completed and operational by 2029.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Noraini emphasized that the fixed budget for the centre's construction remains intact despite market fluctuations in building material costs. The centre, once completed, will serve as a specialized fertility facility under the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN). This initiative is part of the government's strategic efforts to address the declining fertility rate among Malaysians and to provide comprehensive treatment options for couples experiencing difficulties in conceiving.
Furthermore, Dr Noraini highlighted that the LPPKN is offering various subsidies and facilities for couples undergoing treatment, including fertility assessment programs and assistance for procedures such as in-vitro fertilisation (IVF). These initiatives aim to support couples in overcoming challenges related to childbearing, while also contributing to the government's goals of strengthening family institutions and enhancing community well-being.
In August, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) noted a slight increase in the unit price index of cement, ranging from 0.1 to 1.1 percent compared to the previous month. However, this marginal increase has not impacted the overall cost of the project.
