Northeast Monsoon To Begin This Thursday – MetMalaysia

Kuala lumpur: The 2025/2026 Northeast Monsoon is set to commence this Thursday, November 13, and will last until March next year. The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) forecasts five to seven episodes of continuous heavy rain during this period.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip, the director-general of MetMalaysia, highlighted the potential for prolonged heavy rain over several days, which could result in flooding, especially in areas close to rivers and low-lying regions. The strong and continuous northeasterly winds expected during this period may also contribute to rough seas and an increased risk of sea level rise in the South China Sea.

Dr Mohd Hisham advised the public to remain vigilant and prepared for the potential heavy rain episodes throughout the monsoon season. He urged residents to stay informed by regularly checking weather updates, forecasts, and warnings issued through MetMalaysia's official website, the myCuaca mobile application, the department's social media channels, or by contacting the hotline at 1-300-22-1638.
