Lenggeng: The Negeri Sembilan Land and Mines Office (PTG) and the state's Department of Minerals and Geoscience have been instructed to investigate claims of a gold discovery in an area in Lenggeng, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Aminuddin mentioned that he had been informed only about soil erosion repair works in the area, which were unrelated to any gold mining activities. He emphasized the need to verify the presence of gold, stating that if gold is indeed found, it could be considered a potential new source of state revenue. Aminuddin expressed gratitude to the informant for highlighting the issue.
He clarified that the current activities are being conducted by a company that owns the land, which has been dealing with soil erosion. The landowner and developer are sand soil operators, and there is no link to gold mining activities in the area, as per his statement at a press conference held at Wisma Negeri.
Aminuddin also revealed that there was an application for a gold mining licence in Gemas last year. Although the licence was issued in Gemas, Tampin, mining activities have not commenced there. The company involved had conducted exploration and confirmed the presence of gold, leading to their application for a mining licence, which was subsequently approved. Aminuddin denied allegations that he and local representatives held shares in gold mining activities in Negeri Sembilan.
The issue gained traction when claims of gold mining activities in Lenggeng, allegedly involving the Menteri Besar and local representatives, went viral on TikTok.
