Kuala lumpur: PLUS Malaysia Bhd (PLUS) in a statement today announced that the additional lane construction project on the North-South Expressway's (NSE) southern corridor will commence on July 28. The project involves widening the lanes from two to three on the Sedenak to Simpang Renggam route, covering a distance of 17 kilometers.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the implementation period for the project will take 36 months, with the contract awarded to a local contractor through an open tender process. PLUS assured that preliminary work would not disrupt traffic flow, as the existing two lanes in both directions will remain open to vehicles.
The highway operator company stated that the project will be executed in phases, starting with Phase One (Senai Utara to Sedenak), followed by Phase Two (Sedenak to Simpang Renggam), and Phase Three (Simpang Renggam to Machap). The NSE widening project on the Kulai to Sedenak route (Phase One Package A), which began in July last year, is reportedly progressing according to schedule, with preliminary works for the Kulai to Senai Utara route (Phase One Package B) also underway.
PLUS highlighted that the high-impact project is expected to benefit nearly 90,000 daily highway users and serve as a catalyst for socio-economic development in surrounding areas including Sedenak, Kulai, Senai, Iskandar Malaysia, and Pagoh. This government initiative aims to address congestion on the NSE's southern corridor, particularly during peak hours, ultimately providing a smoother journey for highway users. PLUS emphasized that the construction of the additional lane project aligns with enhancing the welfare of the people and the economic development of the country.
