Number Of Flood Evacuees Increases In Perak And Penang, Decreases In Kedah This Evening

Kuala lumpur: The number of flood evacuees at relief centres in Perak and Penang continues to rise, while Kedah recorded a drop as of this evening. In Perak, 2,963 evacuees from 1,006 families are currently housed in centres this evening compared to 2,922 evacuees from 993 families this morning. Two additional centres were opened in Majung and Kerian, bringing the total to 28 centres in the state.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, a total of 2,042 people from 712 families are at 19 centres in Larut, Matang and Selama, 597 people from 199 families in five centres in Manjung, 214 people from 64 families in three centres in Kerian, and 110 people from 31 families in a centre in Perak Tengah.

In Penang, evacuees rose to 1,052 people from 288 families this evening compared to 1,026 people from 279 families this morning. The number of centres remains at seven, with four in North Seberang Perai, two in Central Seberang Perai, and one in Barat Daya district. North Seberang Perai district has the most evacuees at 978 people, distributed among centres such as Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Lahar Yooi and Sekolah Agama Rakyat Nyior Sebatang, among others.

In Kedah, the number of evacuees dropped to 1,562 people from 488 families this evening compared to 1,858 people from 587 families this morning. They are being housed in 15 centres across Kulim, Baling, Pokok Sena, and Pendang districts. Pendang is the newest district affected by floods, with three people from one family housed in Dewan Badminton Tanjung Radin, opened at 2 pm today.

Kulim has the highest number of evacuees with 1,146 people from 346 families at eight centres, while Baling has 340 evacuees from 118 families at five centres. The centre at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Chong Cheng in Kuala Muda district was closed today at 3 pm.

Meanwhile, five rivers in Kedah have exceeded danger levels, including Sungai Pendang in Pendang and Sungai Perik in Padang Terap. Three more rivers are at warning levels, such as Sungai Ketil in Kuala Pegang, Baling.
