Kuala lumpur: Nurul Izzah Anwar announced her decision to step down as the deputy president of the People's Justice Party (PKR) to focus on her studies. She emphasized that this move does not signal an end to her commitment to community service, which she believes can extend beyond the realm of politics.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nurul Izzah stated in a Facebook post that she intends to remain an active PKR member, continuing her support for the party's mission to foster a better Malaysia under the leadership of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. She expressed gratitude to Anwar and the party for honoring her decision to relinquish the deputy president position.

Nurul Izzah acknowledged the support she has received from PKR members, leaders, and colleagues throughout her political career, expressing appreciation for their guidance, trust, and sacrifices. She also conveyed confidence in PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who will assume the role of acting deputy president, and Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, the PKR election director, to effectively manage their new responsibilities.

She expressed her hope to reconnect with party members during the upcoming PKR National Congress in Melaka, scheduled for August 15 and 16.

PKR information chief Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil confirmed in a statement that the party's Central Leadership Council (MPP) has agreed to Nurul Izzah's request for temporary leave from her deputy president duties, effective post the PKR National Congress, with no specified end date. Saifuddin Nasution Ismail's appointment as acting deputy president was decided following discussions about Nurul Izzah's resignation request.
