Putrajaya: PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar has strongly condemned the attack on the son of Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli at a shopping mall in Putrajaya on Wednesday (Aug 13). In a statement uploaded on Instagram, she, on behalf of PKR, urged the authorities to act swiftly, investigate with transparency, and ensure the culprits are brought to justice without compromise.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nurul Izzah emphasized that no child should be exposed to such dangers and described the attack as a grave crime that violates basic principles of humanity. She expressed her understanding of the anxiety and distress that Rafizi and his family are experiencing, reflecting on her own efforts to protect school children from threats and cyberbullying.
She highlighted that while politics can be a battleground for ideas, the safety of children and families should never be compromised or used as leverage. Nurul Izzah urged firm action to prevent threats and intimidation, warning that failure to do so could lead the country to lose hope. She called for comprehensive efforts by authorities to address such threats effectively.
Nurul Izzah also expressed her sympathy to Rafizi's family, praying for the recovery of his son and wife and for their strength and protection.
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar stated that security measures for Rafizi and his family have been tightened following the attack. He also mentioned that statements from six individuals have been recorded to assist in investigations. Rafizi confirmed that his son was the victim and described the incident, involving two male suspects on a motorcycle, one of whom attacked his son with a syringe.
