Miri: The Sarawak Immigration Department (JIM) detained 175 Indonesian nationals during the integrated Ops MEGA operation at a workers' settlement in Linau Mewah Estate, Miri, yesterday. JIM Sarawak said the operation, which began at about 11.35 pm, was carried out to detect and take action against immigration-related offences.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, a total of 250 foreign nationals were screened during the operation, resulting in the detention of 175 Indonesian nationals suspected of committing offences under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155). Of those detained, 90 were men, 53 were women, and 32 were children, the department said in a statement today.
The statement further elaborated that all those detained were taken to the Bekenu Immigration Depot for further investigation and action. JIM Sarawak will continue to intensify integrated enforcement operations to ensure compliance with immigration laws and curb the presence of foreign nationals who violate immigration regulations in the state.
