Johor: The Johor Road Transport Department (JPJ) seized 235 vehicles during the enforcement operation against foreigners known as Ops PEWA, conducted from January 1 till today. The operation specifically targeted foreigners driving without licences or proper documentation.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Zulkarnain Yasin, the director of Johor JPJ, stated that the vehicles seized included motorcycles, cars, lorries, and vans. During this period, 1,109 vehicles were inspected, resulting in the issuance of 720 notices for various offences. The most common offences were driving without a Competent Driving Licence (CDL), expired Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM), lack of insurance coverage, absence of vocational licences, and other technical violations.
Action was taken against 459 foreigners, comprising individuals from Pakistan (195), Bangladesh (110), Indonesia (99), Myanmar (23), Nepal (15), and other countries (17). Zulkarnain highlighted that this operation came in response to public complaints regarding the recent influx of foreigners in the state.
Additionally, Zulkarnain reported that last year, the Johor JPJ inspected 495,779 vehicles through various enforcement operations and took action against 114,153 of them. A total of 242,451 notices were issued, with vehicle licensing offences being the most recorded, accounting for 62,608 cases, including expired vehicle licences and lack of insurance coverage.
He further noted that the Johor JPJ seized 2,075 vehicles for various serious offences. In the realm of commercial vehicle enforcement, 9,575 cases of overloading were recorded, resulting in 9,079 JPJ(P)22 notices and 496 APAD notices being issued.
