Orange Economy Sector Poised to Boost Malaysia’s Economic Growth: Fahmi

Kuala lumpur: The orange economy sector is a developing sector that has the potential to contribute to the country's economic growth, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. Fahmi, who is also the MADANI Government spokesperson, highlighted that this sector, which encompasses creative industries such as film, music, and animation, has been included in the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) following a proposal and engagement session between the Communications Ministry and the Economy Ministry.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Ministry of Economy has accepted and welcomed the proposal for the orange economy, incorporating it into the final document of the 13MP. Fahmi emphasized that this inclusion is a result of the intervention and engagement process that convinced the Ministry of Economy of the sector's potential to aid in the country's economic growth. He announced this development at a post-Cabinet Meeting press conference.

Fahmi further stated that the Cabinet expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Economy for involving every minister and ministry in the engagement session for the 13MP document's preparation. Meanwhile, details of the specific benefits of the orange economy sector will be unveiled during the MADANI 2026 Budget presentation this October, as the 13MP is a five-year medium-term planning document.

The Communications Minister also acknowledged the commitment of the National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (FINAS) and MyCreative Ventures in ensuring that the film, music, and animation industries fully benefit under the 13MP.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, while tabling the 13MP at Dewan Rakyat, reiterated the government's commitment to driving creative economy growth through the high-potential digital creative industry. Anwar announced that the Matching Fund and Joint Production Fund would be implemented to encourage joint investments between the government and the private sector in producing world-class content. The digital creative industry in Malaysia has already generated an income of RM6.3 billion, with an export value of RM850 million.
