Langkawi: Over 16,000 ferry tickets have been sold for routes between Kuala Perlis and Kuala Kedah to Langkawi ahead of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA '25), taking place from May 20 to 24.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ferry Line Ventures Sdn Bhd operations manager Lt Commander (Rtd) Norhafiz Abdul Wahid confirmed that tickets were available for purchase both online and at physical counters. A total of 31 ferry trips will operate daily during the five-day event, making up 155 trips in total. The ferry service has the capacity to accommodate up to 15,000 passengers daily, allowing a total of 75,000 attendees for LIMA '25.
Norhafiz noted that the Malaysian Marine Department (JLM) has sanctioned ferry operations from 7 am to 10 pm throughout the exhibition period. However, operations could extend until midnight depending on ticket demand. While full capacity operations pose no issues, captains are concerned with the risks of night-time navigation. Efforts will be made to enhance readiness and ensure safety.
Dredging works at the entry and exit channels in Kuala Perlis are expected to be completed before the event, while similar works in Kuala Kedah are ongoing. Norhafiz assured that passenger overflow at the terminal will be managed efficiently in coordination with JLM, the People's Volunteer Corps, and security personnel.
