Over 4,000 Notices Issued for Speed Limiter Verification, Says Loke

Bentong: A total of 4,295 notices of speed limiter device (SLD) installation verification have been issued to heavy vehicle owners to date, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said. He stated that the notices were issued to ensure all heavy vehicles comply with the requirement to install the system for the safety of road users.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, vehicle owners receiving a notice are given 14 days to verify the installation of the SLD and return to the Road Transport Department (JPJ) for confirmation. If they comply within the stipulated period, no further action or summons will be taken. This was announced by Loke during the officiation of the new Bentong JPJ branch office, where several dignitaries, including State FELDA Affairs, Cooperatives and Entrepreneurs Committee chairman Datuk Amizar Abu Adam, Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman, and JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, were present.

Loke mentioned that the enforcement of SLD compliance has shown positive results, with more heavy vehicle operators coming forward to install the system after receiving notices. Additionally, he highlighted JPJ's active enforcement of seat belt usage in express buses and buses owned by higher education institutions (IPTs). Compliance is mandatory for all buses equipped with seat belts, whether they belong to IPTs, express services, or tour operators.

Regarding the new Bentong JPJ branch office, Loke explained that the facility, covering 1.5776 acres, was developed under the 11th Malaysia Plan with a construction cost of RM10.4 million. Construction began on March 20, 2023, under continuous monitoring by the Transport Ministry and JPJ. The building was handed over to JPJ on August 6 of this year and commenced full operations on September 8.
