PAC To Recall Witnesses, Former Independent Director Over MAHB Share Sale

Kuala lumpur: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will recall several witnesses, including a former independent director of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), to provide further clarification on the company's share sale and privatisation issue. PAC chairman Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said the decision was made after reviewing transcripts from previous proceedings, which revealed that several questions remain unanswered.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, PAC has conducted 16 proceedings concerning the matter and plans to continue by summoning additional relevant witnesses. In a statement, Mas Ermieyati clarified that recent remarks made by PAC deputy chairman Teresa Kok and committee member Sim Tze Tzin were personal opinions and do not reflect the official stance of the committee.

Recently, Kok and Sim mentioned that the latest proceeding, involving Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, proceeded smoothly with full cooperation from the ministry. Sim further stated that most PAC members were satisfied with the session and believed there were no governance issues warranting further investigation.

However, Mas Ermieyati emphasized that all findings, discussions, and documents presented in PAC proceedings are governed by Standing Order 85 of the Dewan Rakyat and should not be disclosed to the media by any party. She also noted that while PAC appreciates the cooperation of all witnesses involved in the proceedings regarding the management of public airports, no conclusions or recommendations have been finalized at this stage.

She concluded by stating that a comprehensive report would be prepared once all proceedings are completed, and it will be submitted to the government and tabled in the Dewan Rakyat.
