Manila: The Philippine Air Force (PAF) on Tuesday said it has been consistently helping various government agencies perform relief missions in areas affected by the series of weather disturbances that recently hit the country. Through its air assets, PAF has carried out sustained airlift operations to deliver relief supplies to affected communities, PAF spokesperson Col. Ma. Christina Basco said in a press briefing in Camp Aguinaldo.

According to Philippines News Agency, on Sept. 25, 2025, a C-130 aircraft transported 1,000 family food packs to Basco, Batanes while two 'Black Hawk' helicopters airlifted 800 boxes of essential goods to Calayan Island. On Sept. 27, PAF was instrumental in transporting 500 boxes of relief items provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) from Lal-lo, Cagayan to Babuyan Islands. The following day, PAF, in partnership with GMA Kapuso Foundation and other local and national government units, carried out relief operations in Calayan Island.

"A PAF NC-212i aircraft delivered 30 sacks of food packs to Calayan Airport, which was immediately followed by two 'Black Hawk' helicopters ferrying more than 150 boxes of essential supplies from Tuguegarao," Basco said. Relief operations led by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Masbate, which was hit hard by Severe Tropical Storm Opong (international name Bualoi) last week, was also made possible on Monday through the help of PAF, she added.

Another mission conducted by PAF on the same day took place in remote locations in Cagayan, in collaboration with the OCD, DSWD, and the Philippine Coast Guard, among others. "Utilizing its 'Black Hawk' helicopters, the PAF delivered 500 boxes of family food packs, 200 shelter tents, 50 shelter kits, and other relief items including solar power equipment, hygiene and medical supplies, and four breastfeeding kits to the remote islands of Babuyan Claro and Dalupiri in Calayan, Cagayan," Basco said.

Aside from relief missions, the PAF official said they also conducted medical evacuation and transport of stranded individuals/tourists, as well as helped in the rapid damage assessment needs (RDANA) missions in the affected areas. "In the coming days, your PAF will carry out more missions in support of HADR (humanitarian assistance and disaster response) operations, ensuring that relief and recovery missions reach our fellow Filipinos who need them the most," Basco said.

Aside from Opong, tropical cyclones Mirasol and Nando (international name Ragasa) also recently hit the country, with Nando even reaching super typhoon level, displacing thousands of families and causing millions of pesos worth of damage to infrastructure and agriculture.
