Pahang: The Pahang state government has allocated RM3.5 million to strengthen the development of three sports in the state as part of efforts to produce more athletes capable of bringing glory to the state at national level. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail stated that the initiative also aims to strengthen sports development at the grassroots level and ensure new talent can be identified and nurtured.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, RM2 million has been allocated for football, RM1 million for netball, and RM500,000 for sepak takraw this year. Wan Rosdy emphasized that the initiative aligns with the state government's aspiration to place Pahang on par with other states that have long dominated the national sports arena through achievements in various championships. He remarked on the importance of being serious when implementing programs and not doing things half-heartedly, reflecting the state government's commitment to strengthening sports development.
Wan Rosdy also announced that the state government has agreed to increase the allocation for netball by RM500,000 next year, bringing the total allocation for the sport to RM1.5 million. He highlighted that sports development serves as an important platform to foster unity, cooperation, and discipline among the community regardless of background.
The event saw the participation of 42 teams, with Semambu crowned champions, taking home the trophy and RM10,000 in prize money.
