PAIP allocates RM36.2 million to address water supply issues in Lipis

KUANTAN, April 11 (Bernama) — Pengurusan Air Pahang Berhad (PAIP) has allocated RM36.2 million for the implementation of various initiatives to overcome issues of water supply disruption in the Lipis district.

Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said PAIP had also identified seven ‘hotspots’ in the district that often experienced water supply disruption.

He said among the major projects that would be implemented to overcome the problem was upgrading the water distribution system at the Jelai Water Treatment Plant at a cost of RM15.8 million, which will benefit 6,378 user accounts.

“The first phase of the upgrading work has been completed and it has increased the capacity of treated water at the plant from 500 cubic metres to 1,000 cubic metres per hour. The second phase of the project is expected to be completed in September,” he said in a statement on his official Facebook page.

Apart from that, he said works to repair and upgrade water treatment plants in Kechau and Merapoh were underway, while the project to build a sedimentation tank and reduce the high turbidity level at the Benta Water Treatment Plant, was currently at the design stage.

Also at the design stage are the project to build a service tank with a capacity of 3,000 cubic metres, the construction of a suction tank, a pump house as well as work to supply and install pipes from the Benta water tank to Kampung Tersusun Jerkoh.

Wan Rosdy reiterated the state government’s commitment to address the water supply issues in Pahang, adding that he had previously instructed PAIP’s top management to go down to the ground and be more aggressive in finding ways to improve its water supply services.

He also gave his assurance that he would hold a meeting with the PAIP management in each district to be more focused on finding solutions to the water supply issues.
