Baku: Pakistan, Uganda, and Bulgaria have expressed their interest in strengthening cooperation with Malaysia, particularly in the fields of information exchange and telecommunications, as announced by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. The interest was conveyed during bilateral meetings with the communications ministers of the three countries on the sidelines of the World Telecommunication Development Conference 2025 (WTDC-25).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi discussed potential cooperation on information exchange with Uganda's Minister of State for Information and Communications Technology and National Guidance, Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga Kiime. These discussions aim to provide a platform for Malaysia to study and exchange views on policies, which could potentially assist in refining and improving Malaysia's own policies.
Fahmi also revealed that Uganda is keen on learning from Malaysia's initiatives to boost public participation in internet usage, addressing challenges related to device accessibility and digital literacy.
In a separate meeting with Pakistan's Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunications, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Fahmi noted Pakistan's interest in understanding Malaysia's achievements in the semiconductor sector and the wider digital economy.
During discussions with Bulgaria's Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, Dimitar Nedyalkov, there was an expression of interest in establishing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation across various sectors.
Fahmi highlighted the opportunities these meetings present for exchanging views, insights, and experiences in telecommunications, online security, consumer issues within the digital economy, and other areas. The meetings were also attended by Malaysian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Ahmad Kamrizamil Mohd Riza, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Deputy Managing Director Datuk Zulkarnain Mohd Yasin, and the Ministry of Communications' Communications Technology Division Secretary, Ahmad Norhad Zahari.
