Pan Gon Highlights Club Vision, Commitment As Key To Joining Selangor FC

Kuala lumpur: Newly appointed Selangor FC head coach Kim Pan Gon said the Red Giants' vision and commitment were the key factors behind his decision to join the club. Pan Gon said Selangor's clear targets and objectives align closely with his own aspirations as a coach. The former Harimau Malaya head coach also admitted that the club has demonstrated a deep understanding of the leadership and football philosophy he intends to implement.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Pan Gon expressed his confidence in the club's vision and commitment, noting their exceptional dedication. He mentioned that Selangor FC's targets and objectives align with his personal aspirations as a coach. The 56-year-old South Korean tactician emphasized that his coaching philosophy is centred on players, focusing on quality preparation and tactical clarity.

Pan Gon highlighted the importance of building a balanced squad comprising both experienced players and young talents, supported by values such as discipline, professionalism, focus, and teamwork. He also stressed the significance of providing encouragement and motivation off the pitch to ensure the players compete as a united team.

The coach, who previously led South Korea's Ulsan HD to the 2024 K League 1 title, mentioned that the unwavering support of Selangor fans inspired him to take up the role. Last night, it was announced that Pan Gon would be the new head coach of Selangor, while former interim head coach Christophe Gamel was appointed the club's new technical director.

Pan Gon had a successful stint with the national team, improving their FIFA ranking from 154th to 134th between 2022 and 2024, with a peak position of 130th in November 2023. Under his leadership, Malaysia qualified for the Asian Cup on merit for the first time since 1980.

Currently, Selangor are fourth in the Super League with 25 points after 13 matches, trailing leaders and defending champions Johor Darul Ta'zim by 14 points.
