Kota kinabalu: Parents should educate and remind their children, particularly teenagers, not to become involved in mule account syndicates, which could expose them to legal action. Sabah Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Ewon Benedick, who is also Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport Minister, emphasized that allowing others to use their bank accounts could expose account holders to legal action if the accounts were found to have been used for fraud or other unlawful transactions.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ewon stated, "This is something we need to pay attention to. We need to remind ourselves, parents and children, especially teenagers, not to be easily deceived or allow their accounts to be used by others." He highlighted the importance of understanding the risks and threats associated with digital technology, which has become an integral part of daily life.
Ewon, who also serves as the Penampang Member of Parliament, noted that digital technology had significantly changed how people conduct various activities, including financial transactions, business dealings, and applications for government assistance. He cited the growing prevalence of QR code payments among market traders as evidence of digital transactions becoming commonplace.
He stressed the need for a balanced approach to digital technology usage, particularly among young people, to ensure they do not become overly focused on their smartphones at the expense of other responsibilities and important aspects of life. Ewon shared these insights at the Digital Parenting Programme Series IV for the Kapayan state constituency, organized by the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN).
Additionally, Ewon expressed his hope that the programme would enhance parents' knowledge, enabling them to guide their children in using digital technology safely and responsibly. He affirmed his support for parenting initiatives like this, acknowledging their community benefits and the personal reminder of his responsibilities as a father.
