Tawau:Parents have expressed approval for the temporary closure of schools due to haze, advocating for the move to Home-Based Teaching and Learning (PdPR) to safeguard their children's health following two days of unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in the district.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, civil servant Asmah Asmuni, 43, praised the Education Ministry's (MOE) swift action, noting its importance in protecting the health of pupils and teachers. She expressed concern over rising API readings and their potential impact on her two children, aged 10 and nine, who attend Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kem Kabota. Asmuni mentioned that her children have no issues accessing the internet or using smartphones for PdPR.
Housewife Nur Hazlinda Meruddin, 35, also supported the decision, citing the haze's potential health risks to her two sons, who are active students in Year Six and Year Four at SK Muhibbahraya. She noted that during PdPR, her children study with their cousins and assist each other with schoolwork.
Private-sector employee Nurlia Abdullah, 40, agreed with the school closures due to concerns about her seven-year-old son's health, who is a student at SK Pasir Putih.
Nurul Amirah Abdul Rahman, a teacher at SK Taman Tawau, emphasized the importance of PdPR in ensuring that students' education continues without interruption. She mentioned her preparedness to teach various subjects and appealed to parents for cooperation to ensure student attendance in PdPR classes.
The MOE recently ordered all schools under the Tawau District Education Office to close temporarily due to the haze and unhealthy API readings.
