Parliamentary PAC To Host First All-Malaysia PAC Conference

Kuala lumpur: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Malaysian Parliament will organise the first All-Malaysia PAC Conference, beginning tomorrow until January 24 here. PAC chairman Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin stated that the conference aims to enhance the PAC's role as a check and balance entity on executive functions at both Federal and state levels.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the conference will provide insights into the implementation methods of the PAC system across state legislative assemblies nationwide. It will also establish benchmarks for more standardised PAC proceedings and meetings at both parliamentary and state levels. The Masjid Tanah MP highlighted the conference's focus on strengthening governance in PAC proceedings, meetings, and reporting, encouraging the exchange of new ideas and addressing future challenges to strategize PAC implementation.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul is scheduled to officiate the conference on Friday. The event will gather all members of the Parliamentary and state government PACs, involving around 140 participants, including ex-officio members of the Malaysian Parliament, state government officers, and respective state assembly secretaries.

Key components of the conference will include discussions on the challenges and future direction of state PACs, a dialogue session on strengthening public accountability with expert panels in auditing, governance, and financial crime prevention, as well as a summary and closing session encompassing conference resolutions and the selection of the host for the 2028 All-Malaysia PAC.

The PAC anticipates that the conference will yield practical resolutions and recommendations, align financial oversight approaches between the Federal Government and the states, and enhance PAC's effectiveness at all administration levels.
