Parliamentary Services Bill Reflects Government’s Commitment To Reforms – Azalina

Kuala Lumpur: The tabling of the Parliamentary Services Bill 2025 for its first reading today marks the beginning of a historic chapter for the Malaysian Parliament, according to Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said. The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) stated this move as clear evidence of the MADANI government's commitment to advancing legal and institutional reform for the benefit and well-being of the people and the country.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the second reading of the bill is expected to be presented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on March 4. Azalina shared this information in a Facebook post. Following the tabling of the bill in the Dewan Rakyat, the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister's Department (BHEUU, JPM) conducted a briefing session for Members of Parliament from both the government and opposition blocs, providing a detailed explanation of the bill. The session was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

Azalina emphasized that beyond demonstrating the MADANI government's determination to fulfill its promises, the bill is a significant step forward that will propel Malaysia as a nation that upholds democracy. She expressed confidence that the bill will receive support from all 222 Members of Parliament.

The Parliamentary Services Bill 2025 aims to establish the Parliamentary Services as a separate entity from the public service. It also provides for the creation of the Parliamentary Services Council, which will be responsible for appointing and determining the terms and conditions of Parliamentary Services personnel, overseeing financial matters, and developing programs and training related to Parliamentary Services.

Under the bill, the government is mandated to allocate sufficient funds for Parliamentary Services annually to enable the Parliamentary Services Council to carry out its functions effectively.
