Tenom: A train traveling from Tenom to Pangi experienced brake failure and collided with four motorcycle-trolleys left on the tracks at Batu 11, Pangi, resulting in injuries to one passenger.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tenom district police chief Supt Azmir Abd Razak reported that the incident occurred at approximately 8 am. Residents had parked the motorcycle-trolleys on the railway tracks, which led to the collision.
Azmir explained that floods and landslides had restricted the Tenom-Pangi railway service to Batu 11, leaving residents with no choice but to use motorcycle-trolleys or travel on foot for journeys beyond this point. The brake failure, detected before reaching the site, caused the train to derail and hit the trolleys, injuring a man.
He urged the Sabah State Railways Department to ensure the trains are fully operational and secure before commencing travel. Residents were also cautioned against using motorcycle-trolleys on train tracks, despite the absence of road links in the area.
The event gained additional attention when a 30-second video circulated on social media, showing passengers in panic as the train accelerated uncontrollably.
