Passing Of Karam Singh Walia A Significant Loss To Journalism Community: Fahmi

Kuala lumpur: Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil described the passing of renowned broadcast journalist Karam Singh Walia as a significant loss to the nation's journalism community. In a Facebook post, he said Karam Singh, a familiar figure to Malaysians, left a lasting impact throughout his career in broadcasting.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Karam Singh was well-known for his distinctive style in delivering news. Anyone who watched Buletin TV3, particularly from the 1990s up to around 2014, would surely remember his signature sign-off with a pantun (Malay poem) at the end of each report, a unique identity that remains in the memories of many. Fahmi added that he was among those who followed Karam Singh's reports faithfully and deeply appreciated his dedication and contributions to the field of broadcasting.

Fahmi extended his condolences to the late journalist's younger brother, Jasbant Singh, group managing editor of News and Current Affairs at Media Prima, and the entire family. 'May he rest in peace,' he added.

Karam Singh was born in 1959 in Teluk Intan, Perak, into a family of former police officers. He began his broadcasting journalism career at TV3 in 1995 and retired in 2014 due to health reasons. Known as one of the country's most influential environmental journalists, he won the Seri Angkasa Award twice and the Malaysian Press Institute Award for Best Television Environmental Journalist for four consecutive years from 2004 to 2007. The late journalist was also a recipient of the Tabung Kasih @HAWANA welfare initiative in June 2024.
