PBBM’s trust, performance ratings high ahead of SONA


MANILA: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. enjoyed high trust and performance scores ahead of his third State of the Nation Address (SONA), based on the independent, non-commissioned survey by RP-Mission and Development Foundation Inc. (RPMD).

The Boses ng Bayan survey conducted by RPMD from July 1 to 10 showed that Marcos obtained a trust rating of 77 percent and a job performance rating of 75 percent.

The RPMD engaged 10,000 adult Filipinos, representing the 67.75 million registered voters nationwide.

Marcos was most favored by the respondents in the Balance of Luzon, after he earned the highest trust and performance scores, which were at 80.7 percent and 78.07 percent, respectively.

His trust rating was lowest in Mindanao (70.16 percent), while his job performance was least appreciated in Metro Manila (67.38 percent), the survey showed.

Marcos’ latest trust and performance ratings were slightly lower compared with the 79 percent trust score and 76 percent approval score recorded by RPMD in its March 18
to 23 survey.

In a media interview in Apayao on July 19, Marcos said he would present in his third SONA on July 22 the accomplishments of his administration in the past year.

Meanwhile, Vice President Sara Z. Duterte had trust and performance ratings of 76 percent and 71 percent, the same survey showed.

Cabinet secretaries’ work performance

The RPMD also evaluated the overall effectiveness of Marcos’ Cabinet in their respective roles.

The survey showed that Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr. emerged as the top-performing Cabinet official, with a 93 percent rating.

Abalos was followed by Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian (91 percent), Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco (90 percent), Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman (88 percent), Finance Secretary Ralph Recto (86 percent), and Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla (84 percent).

Other Cabinet members with high performance rating were Communications Secretary Cheloy Garafil (82 percent), Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual (81
percent), and Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan (79 percent).

Also top-performing Cabinet officials were Information and Communications Technology Secretary Ivan John Uy (77 percent), Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa (76 percent), and Human Settlements and Urban Development Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar (74 percent).

The RPMD also emphasized the notable ratings of Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. (72 percent), Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra (71 percent), Science and Technology Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. (69 percent), and Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan (67 percent).

The survey also showed that Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma had a performance score of 65 percent, followed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin (64 percent), Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista (62 percent), and Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro Jr. (60 percent).

The survey concluded with majority ratings received for Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo (58 percent), Energy Secretary Ra
phael Lotilla (56 percent), Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac (54 percent), and Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrado Estrella III and Environment Secretary Toni Yulo Loyzaga (both 50 percent).
