PCG Secures Bicol Ports to Ensure Prompt Aid Delivery for Masbate

Manila: Operations in all ports in the Bicol Region, particularly those along the route going to Masbate province, are back to normal, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Tuesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, PCG-5 commander Commodore Ivan Roldan announced that nine vessels are available daily to and from Masbate, facilitating the movement of an estimated 155 rolling cargoes per day. "We are monitoring all ports going to Masbate province to ensure that all assistance will not be delayed. For Masbate, we have Mintac, Mobo, Masbate, Cawayan, Cataingan, and Aroroy ports. All are operational," Roldan stated.

In addition to ensuring the smooth flow of roll-on/roll-off services, the PCG has provided two water purifiers and desalination units to the provincial government of Masbate. These units are capable of producing up to 10,000 liters of potable water per day, with a combined capacity of 20,000 liters per day.

More than 100 PCG personnel have been deployed to assist the provincial disaster risk reduction management council. Roldan further added, "They are helping in clearing, relief operations, and distribution of family food packs in different areas in Masbate."
