PDEA files raps vs. ‘top priority’ drug suspect in Camiguin bust

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) filed criminal charges Thursday against a ‘top priority drug personality’ after her arrest in Camiguin province for possession of PHP1.5 million worth of “shabu” or methamphetamine hydrochloride.

In a statement, PDEA Northern Mindanao (PDEA-10) identified the suspect as Ruby Gerona, 40, who faces charges for violating Republic Act 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

‘Despite Camiguin being recognized as a drug-cleared province, this operation highlights the ongoing risk of illegal drugs entering the area,’ the PDEA-10 said in a statement.

The operation, which took place Wednesday night, was coordinated with PDEA-Caraga, as Gerona is a resident of Buenavista, Agusan del Norte province. Camiguin PDEA agents assisted in the joint operation.

Authorities seized over 225 grams of shabu during the sting operation.
