Beaufort: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has announced plans to expedite benefits and welfare assistance for the family of Corporal Mohamad Nur Hafiz Rahim, 29, who tragically lost his life due to an electric shock incident in Beaufort, Sabah, last Thursday. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail emphasized the importance of this action to alleviate the burden on the deceased's wife, who is caring for their two-year-old son.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Saifuddin visited the late officer's family home, joined by Bukit Aman Management director Datuk Seri Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid, Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, and Sabah deputy police commissioner Datuk Mohd Azhar Hamin. This visit was a demonstration of the police force's collective sympathy for the family. "We are here to convey the sympathies of the entire police force to the family of the deceased. The loss of any officer, regardless of rank or position, is a great loss to the police force," Saifuddin stated during the visit to their home in Kampung Hutan Pasir, Ketereh.
The assistance package for the family includes contributions from the Sabah and Kelantan Police Contingents (IPK) and takaful payments from the deceased's membership in the Police Cooperative, with total contributions exceeding RM200,000. Saifuddin noted that the deceased had designated his wife, Fatimah Shahira, as the beneficiary of his monthly pension, with additional provisions for his mother.
Saifuddin has directed the Bukit Aman Management director to hasten other payments to the family, ensuring that these transactions bypass the standard procedural delays. "I personally assured the wife and family that all matters relating to the process will be expedited and will not go through the standard procedure," he affirmed. Additionally, the deceased's wife has been encouraged to reach out to the IPK for further assistance regarding her child's and family's welfare.
The incident also claimed the lives of Corporal Chiu Teck Siong, 40, and Constable Muhammad Raimi Ismarubee, 26, as they suffered electric shocks while handling a metal pole outside the Weston Police Station near SK Weston, Beaufort, Sabah.
In Terengganu, Saifuddin extended his condolences to the family of Constable Muhammad Raimi Ismarubee, who also perished in the incident. Arriving at the family home in Felda Kerteh 2, he met with the constable's parents and spent approximately 30 minutes offering his support. The family received death compensation totaling RM72,500 under the PDRM Cooperative Group Takaful Scheme, an additional RM1,200 from the PDRM Welfare Fund, and a personal contribution from Saifuddin.
The visit was attended by prominent figures including Terengganu police chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairudin, Sabah deputy police commissioner Datuk Mohd Azhar Hamin, and other regional police and community leaders. The late Muhammad Raimi, who had been stationed at Weston Police Station since 2024, was the second of three siblings and unmarried.
