PDRM Deploys Over 300 Personnel to Curb Diesel Smuggling Along Borders: IGP

Kuala lumpur: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has deployed over 300 personnel to border-area petrol stations to proactively prevent diesel smuggling and misuse. Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail announced this initiative in response to the government's recent adjustment of the subsidised diesel price for locals, set at RM2.10 per litre starting July 1.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Inspector-General emphasized the role of PDRM in monitoring petrol stations located in border areas to prevent smuggling activities. The deployment is part of a larger effort to ensure that diesel is not misused or illegally transported across borders. The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) will focus on monitoring trade and enforcing regulations at the point of sale. Both agencies will collaborate closely to eliminate smuggling activities from their source.

The announcement was made during the 42nd annual general meeting of the Retired Senior Police Officers Association of Malaysia (RESPA), held at the PDRM College in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur. The Inspector-General highlighted the importance of inter-agency cooperation in effectively curbing smuggling activities.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had earlier revealed that the subsidised diesel price for Malaysians will be adjusted to RM2.10 per litre beginning next month. This change is part of a broader subsidy targeting reform, which will involve MyKad verification under the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) programme.
