Kuala lumpur: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has announced a relaxation in its recruitment requirements for non-Bumiputera applicants. This initiative, which includes adjustments to physical and academic criteria, was confirmed by Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah. The aim is to provide more opportunities for non-Bumiputeras to join the force, ensuring that PDRM's personnel better reflect Malaysia's diverse communities.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr. Shamsul Anuar emphasized that neither the Home Ministry (KDN) nor PDRM sets specific quotas for Bumiputera or non-Bumiputera applicants. Recruitment is based on merit, academic qualifications, health status, physical fitness, and passing the vetting process. This initiative seeks to enhance participation without compromising the professionalism and integrity of the force. The government encourages more non-Bumiputeras to join the security force to mirror the country's diverse communities.
Dr. Shamsul Anuar addressed this issue in response to a question from V. Ganabatirau (PH-Klang) during a question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat. He revealed that as of August 31, non-Bumiputeras comprised 7,581 of the total 136,503 personnel in PDRM, accounting for 5.55 percent of the entire force. He assured that the recruitment and promotion process in PDRM is devoid of racial or religious discrimination, operating under a transparent mechanism with physical examinations, fitness tests, psychometric assessments, and strict vetting of disciplinary records.
On the subject of non-Bumiputera recruitment in other uniformed agencies since 2023, Dr. Shamsul Anuar reported that the Immigration Department had 553 of 10,914 positions filled by non-Bumiputeras. The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and the Prisons Department had 103 of 4,913 and 440 of 16,153 positions filled by non-Bumiputeras, respectively.
