Sepang: The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has confirmed that two inmates of the Narcotics Addiction Rehabilitation Centre (PUSPEN) in Dengkil, Selangor escaped from the centre today. Sepang district deputy police chief Supt Mior Mohd Nor Azuan Alias said his department had received a report regarding two men who escaped from PUSPEN Dengkil at 8.40 am. 'The police are conducting a manhunt to track down the two men. 'The public is advised not to panic and not to speculate or spread unconfirmed information regarding the incident,' he said in a statement today. Members of the public with information on the whereabouts of the two individuals are advised to channel the information to the nearest police station or contact the Sepang district police headquarters at 03-87774222.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, a security alert and announcement went viral regarding the incident of two PUSPEN Dengkil residents who escaped from the centre, believed using a stolen vehicle. Meanwhile, National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh said the two men fled from Dengkil PUSPEN and stole a vehicle from a village near the rehabilitation centre. However, the stolen vehicle was found by AADK in Beranang, Selangor and has been handed over to PDRM for further action.

'Efforts to track down and arrest the two suspects are being carried out comprehensively by AADK in collaboration with PDRM,' he said in a statement today. He said a comprehensive internal investigation was immediately carried out to identify the cause of the incident including examining any elements of negligence or non-compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOP). 'AADK will take strict action if there is negligence among the staff involved,' he said.
