Kuala lumpur: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has refuted a viral claim about a special press conference allegedly held by acting Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ibrahim Darus regarding a police operation.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, PDRM secretary Datuk Mohamad Noor Yusof Ali clarified that the claim, which spread via a Facebook account, was untrue. He stated that Ibrahim had neither held any press conference at Bukit Aman nor released any such statement.

"The content circulated used fake images and identities as well as the position of the acting Deputy Inspector-General of Police to create the impression that the statement represented the official position of PDRM," Mohamad Noor explained. He emphasized that such actions could mislead the public, cause misunderstandings, and undermine the credibility of both the individual involved and the PDRM as an institution.

Datuk Mohamad Noor further stated that PDRM has filed a police report to aid investigations aimed at identifying those responsible for creating and distributing the false content, as well as understanding their motives and objectives.

He stressed that PDRM takes seriously the act of producing, manipulating, or spreading false content using the identity, image, or position of any officer or personnel to make it seem like official information.

"The public is advised not to easily believe or disseminate any information whose authenticity has not been verified, but instead to verify it through official PDRM channels and credible news sources," he added. Mohamad Noor also urged the public to be responsible social media users and avoid spreading content that might cause confusion and disrupt public order.
