Kuala lumpur: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is prepared to fully cooperate following the Cabinet's decision to involve police officers in the Aviation Security (AVSEC) team as an immediate step to improve the country's aviation security control. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail stated that the PDRM, alongside the Home Ministry (KDN), the Ministry of Transport (MOT), and related agencies, is currently detailing the implementation mechanism.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the planning includes defining the scope of assignment, placement location, human resource requirements, areas of responsibility, and operational coordination. Mohd Khalid emphasized that the police force's involvement in the aviation security ecosystem is expected to enhance capabilities in intelligence sharing, early detection, enforcement coordination, and immediate action against threats or criminal activities targeting aviation facilities and procedures.

He mentioned that this measure is part of a comprehensive and layered security system aimed at strengthening access control, screening procedures, security checks, risk assessments, and strategic cooperation among all agencies and stakeholders. The implementation of tighter, integrated, and intelligence-based security controls is anticipated to bolster preventive capabilities, reduce risks, and close gaps that could be exploited by irresponsible parties.

Mohd Khalid assured that flight safety and the security of the country's entry and exit points remain a priority, stating that any attempt to use the aviation industry for criminal activities will not be tolerated. Meanwhile, MADANI Government spokesman Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil announced that the government will deploy PDRM personnel to the AVSEC team to enhance security control at airports. This decision follows an incident involving a Malaysian pilot detained in Indonesia on suspicion of smuggling drugs.
