Penang: Penang recorded RM12.5 million in parcel rent arrears involving more than 70,000 strata parcels as of June 1, according to State Land and Mines Office director Dr Faizal Kamarudin. He highlighted that the majority of these arrears have been accumulating since 2019, coinciding with the introduction of parcel rent payments for strata development schemes in the state.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Timur Laut district emerged as the region with the highest amount of arrears, involving 32,000 accounts. Dr Faizal warned that failure to promptly settle these dues may lead to the issuance of a Notice of Demand via Form 11 under the Strata Titles Act 1985 to the concerned parcel owners.
He further elaborated that if a strata parcel owner does not settle the arrears in full within three months of receiving the notice, confiscation action could be initiated under Section 23 of the same Act. Dr Faizal explained that such enforcement action allows the land administrator to transfer ownership of the strata parcel back to the state authority.
In light of these developments, Dr Faizal urged all parcel owners involved to clear their outstanding payments immediately to prevent confiscation. Strata parcel owners with further inquiries have been advised to contact the Penang Land and Mines Office or the respective District and Land Offices.
