Penang FC Pay Dearly for Mistakes Again Says Head Coach

Penang: Winless Penang FC have shown improvements in their first four matches in the Super League this season, but are still paying dearly for their mistakes, said head coach Wan Rohaimi Wan Ismail. Wan Rohaimi noted that the team displayed better energy and cohesion in their recent match against Kelantan The Real Warriors (TRW), but ultimately lost 0-1 due to a player's error.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Wan Rohaimi explained that the sending off of a player in the second half significantly affected the team's performance. "We started well in the first half; everything went smoothly until an individual mistake enabled Kelantan TRW to take the lead. A few minutes later, we were punished with a red card, which clearly affected the players' emotions and rhythm of play," he said during a post-match press conference.

Despite being forced to play with only 10 men, Wan Rohaimi acknowledged his players' spirit in the second half. He mentioned that several substitutions and tactical changes created opportunities up to the final minute, but the Panthers were unable to convert these chances. He remains hopeful for better fortunes but is aware of the tougher challenge ahead when they face league leaders Johor Darul Ta'zim FC at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium on Sept 28.

Kelantan head coach E. Elavarasan commended his team's performance, particularly goalkeeper Damyanov Damyan Valeriy, for making critical saves against Penang. He also praised Penang for their commendable play despite the disadvantage of having a man sent off.

The match at the City Stadium marked Kelantan's first win in four matches, moving them to fifth in the league table with five points. Meanwhile, Penang slipped to 11th place with only one point.
