Penang: Penang FC is expected to undergo a major shake-up in its lineup following a crushing defeat to Selangor FC in the Super League match at the Bandaraya Stadium here last night. Head coach Wan Rohaimi Wan Ismail expressed disappointment with his team's lacklustre performance, which was marred by numerous basic mistakes and saw them concede five goals.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Wan Rohaimi stated, "I don't want to offer excuses for this defeat, but I am very disappointed. Even though we were three goals down at halftime, the players still showed a desire to fight back." However, a pivotal moment in the second half, when a simple mistake led to a conceded goal, broke the team's fighting spirit. He acknowledged the frustration of fans who supported the team despite the disappointing outcome and promised a major overhaul in response to the defeat.
The 49-year-old coach emphasized the importance of learning from this defeat to prevent similar mistakes in the future, especially given the team's current challenging situation. On the other side, Selangor FC head coach Christophe Gamel expressed satisfaction with his team's performance, highlighting their ability to maintain focus despite disruptions caused by lighting issues at the stadium. The game, which saw Selangor win 5-1, was interrupted twice due to malfunctioning floodlights.
This latest defeat marks Penang's seventh loss this season, leaving the team at the bottom of the league standings with only five points from 10 matches, while Selangor holds fourth place with 19 points.
