Penang: The Penang branch of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has seized goods worth more than RM3.06 million in enforcement operations across the state from January until yesterday. Its director, S. Jegan, said the seizures followed inspections of 67,564 premises, which led to 804 cases being recorded and compounds totaling RM461,800 issued.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, most cases involved price-related offences, such as failure to display price tags and selling goods above the controlled price. During the period, 2,288 public complaints were received, mostly concerning pricing, supply of controlled items, and other related issues.

Meanwhile, Jegan indicated that the Pasar Patuh Programme (3P) aims to improve compliance among market traders by promoting clear price displays, accurate weighing tools, and a clean business environment. The Chowrasta Market was selected for the pilot phase, involving 60 traders from various sections before the initiative is expanded statewide.

He added that the programme is a collaboration with local authorities, the Health Ministry, the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority, the Companies Commission of Malaysia, and certified weighing equipment verifiers. The goal is to raise awareness among traders on the importance of following trade laws, fostering fair competition, and protecting consumer interests.
