Perak Government Initiates Strategic Partnerships to Tackle AI Workforce Challenges

Perak: The Perak government has rolled out several initiatives aimed at addressing the challenges posed by artificial intelligence (AI) in the workforce, by forming strategic alliances with both industry leaders and academic institutions.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, State Communications, Multimedia and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee chairman Mohd Azlan Helmi emphasized the significance of reskilling and upskilling efforts during a session at the State Legislative Assembly. These efforts are being bolstered through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, such as the Industrial Training Institute, GiatMARA, and community colleges.

Mohd Azlan highlighted the global issue of job displacement due to automation and robotics, noting that the state government’s approach is to manage the transition towards AI responsibly rather than rejecting it. He stated, “AI should serve to simplify life, not oppress, and must be embraced as a catalyst and opportunity rather than a threat.”

To achieve this, Mohd Azlan stressed the need for immediate action through the implementation of inclusive policies, comprehensive training, and ethical oversight. This proactive approach aims to ensure that AI becomes a beneficial tool for society.

Additionally, Mohd Azlan provided an update on the National Digital Network (JENDELA) rollout in the Batu Kurau state constituency. As of February, two new towers have become fully operational in Kampung Cebuk Pelanduk and Simpang Empat, Anak Kura. Furthermore, 21 transmitter stations have been upgraded to improve telecommunication coverage. For fixed broadband services, 2,026 out of 2,763 premises now have gigabit-capable optical fiber access, with full completion anticipated by the end of 2025.
