Ipoh: Perak Football Association President Datuk Mohd Azhar Jamaluddin has announced the team's readiness to bolster its squad with new signings in preparation for this season's Malaysia Cup. The move aims to enhance team performance and competitiveness.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the decision to bring in new players will be based on recommendations from the team manager and coaching staff. Mohd Azhar emphasized the importance of assessing the needs identified by the management team and the potential impact on performance. The initiative forms part of Perak's strategic preparations for both the Malaysia Cup and the remaining A1 League matches following the opening of the second Malaysia League transfer window on January 5.
Perak, having qualified on merit for the Malaysia Cup, is set to face Kuala Lumpur City FC in the round of 16 at the Manjung Municipal Council Stadium on January 18. The return leg will see the teams clash again at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium on January 25. Mohd Azhar expressed hope that Perak players would put forth their best effort to challenge Kuala Lumpur City FC, the 2021 Malaysia Cup champions, despite their adversaries' strengthened lineup with numerous foreign players. He remains optimistic about the possibility of an upset, emphasizing the unpredictability of football.
In a related development, the Perak Sejahtera Inter-Parliament League Championship 2025/2026 will witness 24 teams compete for the Menteri Besar of Perak Cup, with a total prize pool of RM35,000. Mohd Azhar noted that the league, scheduled from January 9 to February 15, will be hosted across four zones: Kerian, Pengkalan Hulu, Bagan Datuk, and Tanjung Malim. The competition aims to provide young talents with opportunities to showcase their skills, potentially leading to their integration into The Bos Gaurus at various competitive levels.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, while officiating the event, highlighted the league as a crucial platform for nurturing football talent in Perak, starting from the grassroots level. He recognized Perak's historical contribution to the national football scene and stressed the importance of a structured approach to talent development. The tournament will feature 720 players aged between 18 and 40, co-organized with Perak UMNO Youth.
