Perak State Government Allocates RM500,000 for New Bridge in Kampung Ulu Geruntum

Gopeng: The Perak state government has sanctioned RM500,000 for constructing a concrete bridge in Kampung Ulu Geruntum. This initiative aims to provide a long-term solution following the collapse of the village's main bridge due to a water surge on June 19.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Sandrea Ng Shy Ching stated that construction would begin once the ongoing remedial efforts are finalized. She expressed gratitude to the agencies and personnel actively working in the affected area and emphasized the importance of expediting these efforts to restore normalcy for the residents of Kampung Ulu Geruntum.

In her capacity as the Teja assemblyman, Sandrea Ng Shy Ching has allocated RM45,000 from her constituency funds to repair damaged pipes and restore the disrupted water supply. Furthermore, the state government has approved an emergency allocation of RM150,000 for a suspension bridge. This bridge is currently under construction and projected to be completed by mid-July, aiming to reconnect the isolated area.

The water surge on June 19 led to the evacuation of over 50 residents to the Gopeng Town Hall temporary relief center. The destruction of the main bridge by strong currents severed access, leaving residents stranded and highlighting the critical need for swift infrastructural restoration.
